Knowing that you have a place that's yours, is a good feeling. FWI helped me move into a perfect situation, and stay in it.

Wyatt's Story

Dog Days are Over.

Today, Andrew Wyatt and his dog, Prince, enjoy something that once felt out of reach: a home of their own.

In their Pitman, Gloucester County home, Prince enjoys a fenced backyard, plenty of room to roam, and even his own doggy door. For Wyatt, a lifelong dog lover, creating a place where Prince—and family—can feel at home is a source of pride.

But getting there required Wyatt to take a closer look at his finances.

“You don’t know what you don’t know,”

Wyatt says, reflecting on his lack of experience managing money.

“It’s one of those things that people don’t talk about. People should have access to quality information.”

After being referred by Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Wyatt connected with the Financial Wellness Institute (FWI).

“I needed a little guidance and a little bit of a kick in the butt and FWI can provide both of those,”

he shared.

Wyatt worked to address his debts, establish a budget, and build the financial foundation needed to become a homeowner. About a year later, his goal became a reality: Wyatt purchased his first home.

“Everything came together,” he said.

Today, Wyatt has more than a home. He has the knowledge and financial tools to help him maintain it and continue moving forward.

“Knowing that you have a place that’s yours is a good feeling.”

His new home has also become a place for family—where nieces and nephews visit for Halloween and play with Prince in the backyard.

Wyatt continues to invest in his future. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Rutgers University and is now pursuing a master's degree in social work.

How FWI Helped

FWI helped Wyatt build the financial knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to move toward homeownership. Through personalized financial guidance, FWI supported him in working with creditors, developing a sustainable budget, preparing for homeownership, and building the financial habits needed to maintain his new home.

FWI's approach went beyond helping Wyatt purchase a home—it helped him develop a stronger financial foundation for the future.

From Financial Uncertainty to Homeownership

Wyatt's story is a reminder that knowing where to start—and having the right support—can turn a goal into a new beginning.
